Penny For Your Thoughts

We received the request for help for the Penny family through our friends at Kaboodle. Misty Lucas was able to identify a need in our community through the Nextdoor app. The homeowners had saved money on a low income budget to do repairs. All in order to obtain safe entry/exit to the home as the husband John is legally blind. This situation has really been a struggle for them. His wife Sue has to watch hime as he tries to navigate everything. There is a sense of urgency for this project to be completed.

After saving money, they hired a contractor to build a safe ramp and stairs for their home both for the front and the rear. They spent their savings hiring the contractor who did not finish their project.

We arrived at the home to find the front porch in unfinished status. What was done was inproperly built. The stairs were not even and the stair stringers were not fastened well and unstable. The front porch will need to be rebuilt and the ramp had only a few posts set and were not in line. There is approximately 21' of ramp to built to make ADA compliant on the front.

The back of home needs a similar built back porch and a long ramp approximately 40lf on back and side to allow for proper emergency exit.

We are now taking donations and making a list of volunteers. Once we get funds together we will schedule an event to build everything.

This couple is as sweet as can be.

Sue is part of a comfort bear outreach. The police department, nursing homes, hospitals, and other places give these bears to people who need a reminder that they are not alone and that someone cares for them. She hand sews around 100 bears a month. This family gives out of their lack to care for those who need a little love.

Please give to this project and know that we have people waiting to help with skills. One of the local architects has put together drawings for us and he is willing to work with his carpentry skills.
